| I love
books and I love to read. I think my earliest memory about books is my grandma
reading me The Poky Little Puppy, over and over again. I remember my first
visit to the 'big-kids' section of the elementary school library and the teacher
who introduced me to Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. And I'll always remember the year
my Easter basket included the Little House box set. Growing up, I kept
a flashlight in my room and could often be found under the covers, reading long
past bedtime. Far too often I still stay up late into the night with a book, but
fortunately, I don't have to be sneaky about it anymore. And like many readers
(and those who try to promote reading) I've been in a number of different book
clubs over the years. This summer my current group has had a rough time getting
together but with the vacations, job changes, military service and weddings behind
us (for now anyway) we have been finalizing our schedule and reading selections
for the rest of the year. | |
And why does this
matter to you? Because it's my love for reading and all the time I've been spending
looking at books recently that inspired this month's Creative Corner project

Here's
how you get started: Open your Lettering Delights
browser and select Journaling Delights. Find a design you like and select the
journaling tag. Click the 'Add Text' button Use
the Drawing Tools to appropriately size the text box and place it on the tag. Select
a font and type the quote (or personal note, etc.) in the text box. Click OK. Click
on the Layout button and then click on the Images Clipboard to add your tag image
to the layout page. Select the tag image and click
'Size Image'. In order to get a traditional bookmark size (approx 1½ -2"
x 6½ -7", but it really is up to you), be sure that the 'constrained'
box is unchecked. This will allow you size the image to be longer than it is wide
and may cause some distortion of the image. To
minimize image distortion, first, size the image, leaving the constrained box
checked until either the desired height or width is achieved. Then, uncheck the
constrained box and select the final image dimensions. Tags with simple embellishments
and fonts without too much detail (see samples) will provide the best results. Print
the page on cardstock and trim to size. Remember, that under the print command,
you have the option to change the orientation of your layout page (portrait or
landscape) which may allow you more room to trim or the ability to place more
images on a page for printing. That's it! Punch
the hole and tie on a ribbon. For extra durability, the bookmarks can also be
laminated
These are a fun, quick
project and can be completely personalized. Make inspiring and creative bookmarks
for students starting the new school year. Giving a book as a gift? Select a favorite
quote (from the book or elsewhere) and make a personalized bookmark to tuck inside.
Make a personal bookmark to send along with a book you are loaning to a friend.
