When it comes to my scrapbooking, I often find myself ridiculed (all in good fun,
of course) for my organizational habits. As soon as I get a batch of photos printed,
they are sorted into envelopes based on the subject, event or occasion. Later
on, I go through each envelope and determine the layouts (i.e. how many pages
it will be, which pictures on which pages, etc.) and draw little thumbnail sketches
of my layouts. Sometimes the ideas will come right away and sometimes the pictures
will stay in the envelope for a while. Whenever the idea and thumbnails come together
for me, the photos get placed in a file, along with the papers or embellishments
that I know Ill use with them (and sometimes a list of items or colors to
pick up the next time Im shopping). I also include in the file any memorabilia
(i.e. ticket stubs, cards, programs, etc.) and type out the alphabets that I know
Ill be using in letter boxes or titles. Everything I need is all in one
place, ready and waiting for the layout to be completed. | |
This process works great for me, especially
since I most often scrap with friends at local shops where Im away from
home and away from the computer. I can take my supply box and files and have plenty
of pages to work on at any given time. But where this system falls short for me
is in journaling. I like to wait and do my journaling after the layout is done
so I can have flexibility in size and placement of my journaling boxes. And a
big challenge with journaling is determining which fonts I want to use, because
there are so many great ones to choose from. Did you know that it is
quick and easy to print samples of all Lettering
Delights fonts and alphabets? For example, to print samples of all journaling
fonts simply select the journaling category on the product
page, Select Show Only TrueType Fonts and then click green Printable
Version button. What you get is a great resource, that I keep with my page
layout files (and another by my computer for easy reference). While Im working
on a page, I know exactly the look and feel I want it to have, and thats
the best time to pick a font. With the sample printout close at hand, I can make
that decision and jot it down on my finished except for the journaling
pages. So far, its working great and the task of sitting down to do my journaling
is less daunting because I know exactly what Im going to do when I get to
the computer. New fonts are always being added, so Id suggest printing a
new reference sheet every once in a while. (Hint: Sort by Date Added
to see how many new fonts have been added since your reference sheet was printed)
This reference sheet is also a great resource for each time you order new fonts;
you can quickly see which ones you want to have added to your own collection.

 | The
Chinese Calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, which means that the beginning
of the year can fall anywhere between late January and mid-February. Twelve years,
each named for an animal, make up one cycle of the calendar. Legend says that
the Lord Buddha summoned all animals to come to him before he departed earth.
Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward, he named a year after each
one in the order they arrived. In celebration of the coming Chinese New
Year, Lettering Delights
has a Chinese
| Calendar
Bundle that includes 12 brand new alphabets - one for each animal for whom
a year is named.
Chinese New Year will be celebrated on
February 9, 2005 and will be the year of which animal? Send
your answer to fontrivia@LetteringDelights.com
with grin & win on the subject line. Please include your mailing
address and your choice from the following products: Borders & Backgrounds
CD or a Typing Delights CD. All correct answers will be entered into a random
drawing. Congratulations to Melissa LeSueur (Provo, UT), Marci
Early (Springfield, MO) and Tiana Walter, (Beaver Springs, PA) the winners of
the January trivia contest. They did some successful research to find that January
comes from Janus, the Roman god of gates and doors, beginnings and endings. | | | | So
