For me, holidays are a great part of every year, and every month has something to celebrate. Although it’s not February yet, it is not too soon to be thinking about the Valentines you want to send. Valentine’s Day is not just the romantic holiday for couples. It’s a great time to remind parents, children, grandparents, other relatives and friends that you love them and love having them in your life. 1. Open your Lettering Delights browser and select Alphabets. Picking your alphabet is probably the hardest part. With so many to choose from, you may want to consider making several different cards, so you can mix, match and experiment. If you can’t find the exact alphabet you are looking for, scroll all the way to the bottom of the alphabet list and you will see ‘More...’. Select this and you will be taken directly to the Lettering Delights web site where there are hundreds more to choose from.
2. Once you have selected your alphabet, type the words that you need on the ‘type here’ line at the bottom of the screen. Click Enter, and the text you have typed will automatically be displayed in the alphabet you have selected. Click ‘Add’ to place the word on the clipboard.
3. Click over to the layout page and click on the image of your word in the ‘Alphabets/Texture’ box. The image will automatically move to the blank layout page. Select the image and then click ‘Size Image’ to select the proper width or height you need for your card.
4. Once the image is the proper size, you can go back to Alphabets, type more words and bring them back to the layout page. I usually like to type up my words individually because that allows me the greatest flexibility, especially when I’m creating as I go. In creating the ‘Be Mine’ card in which I incorporated a Journaling Delight embellishment, I placed each word and the embellishment on the layout page, and then moved them around and changed sizes until it looked the way I wanted.
5. When you know you are going to cut up individual letters, like I did on the ‘Love’ card, you do not have to type each letter at a time. I simply typed the word ‘love’, but put a couple of spaces between each letter. This provided enough space between the letters so that I would have plenty of room to cut or punch them to the proper size. If the word you need is a little longer, rotate your layout page to provide more horizontal space.
6. Once you have everything you need on your layout page, simply print it, cut out the pieces and put your card together. Add in colored or patterned paper, fibers, embellishments, whatever you have around. I created these cards with papers and ribbon I had on hand.
7. When it comes to cards, you can really do whatever you want. I like to do different sizes as you’ll notice in the two I made here. ‘Be Mine’ is a long narrow card that fits perfectly into a regular business size envelope and the ‘Love’ card is square. There is no right or wrong. Be creative and have fun!
