Recently I was browsing in a specialty stationary store (they are great places to get creative inspiration) and was reminded of the simple, classic elegance of monogrammed stationary. It’s the perfect thing for writing a special note, thank you or otherwise, when it’s really the heartfelt message that is the most important thing. Creating your own is simple and easy with the elegant fonts available at LetteringDelights.com

Specific steps to this project are a little difficult, since paper and software selections both make a difference. But I have put together some general instructions that should see you through:

  1. Select your stationary. The stock you print on can be a simple cardstock which you then cut to size or pre cut, unprinted paper that you purchase in a stationary, paper supply or even office supply store. For more elegance, consider using a card that is embossed with a simple border.
  2. In either standard word-processing software (i.e. MS Word, Word Perfect) or a more technical designing or publishing program (i.e. Corel Draw, Quark Express) set up your layout according to the size of the paper you will be printing on. If you choose to purchase pre-cut stationary, many times the manufacturer will include layout and printing instructions, so refer to those if they are available.
  3. Select a font the best fits the style you wish to portray. The samples included here are using Scrap Formal and LD Elegancia. Other good choices for a script style include LD Scriptive, LDJ Aunt Elizabeth or Scrap Calligraphy. The search feature at LetteringDelights.com is a great tool to find just what you are looking for.
  4. Type the initials you plan to use onto your layout and adjust the font size appropriately. Here’s a hint if you are using regular word processing software: If you want to layout the initials, similar to the sample, with the large initial in the middle, place each individual letter in a text box. This gives you the flexibility to move each letter individually and place them exactly where you want them in relation to one another.
  5. Once you have the layout you want, just print and trim (if necessary). Be creative in your placement and even try some color. (And don’t forget to share your ideas with us at the Inspiration Station.
