It’s the time of year when there are all kinds of sports being played and watched. Earlier this month I attended a college football game and participated with the crowd as the cheerleaders worked with each section of the stadium, leading us in cheers and chants, holding up signs with the word or letter we were supposed to shout.

That got me thinking that for all of the high school and pee-wee cheer squads out there, it would be easy to make simple signs with Lettering Delights Alphabets. Individual letters can be printed on full sheets of paper and then mounted on posterboard, making them plenty large for most crowds. Even avid fans could make the words they want to shout. Or type out the number of your favorite player to cheer from the stands.

While we're thinking of reasons to cheer, let's give a big cheer to this month's special contest winners: Nancy Emery, Marla O'Brian, Lisa Hehner, Susan Cooper and Charlotte Strainovici. Check out What's New to see their winning color schemes in the new Varsity Bundle.

There is always something fun to create with help from letteringdelights.com!

The trick to creating quick easy embellishments and decorations for notebooks, book covers and any other school supplies is to print your own stickers using Journaling Delights. Most office supply stores carry sheets of adhesive paper that are 8 1/2 x 11 and run through a printer with no problems. This self-adhesive paper is usually found with the mailing labels and other specialty papers. Simply print your JD onto the adhesive paper, trim, and peel off the protective backing to adhere it to your notebook, book cover, lunch bag or any place else you could put a sticker. Use title and journaling boxes to create custom toppers for notebooks and book covers. Journaling Delights adornment images can be added for extra fun.

Alphabet - Phys Ed

  1. To print the photo corners, open your browser and go to Alphabets. Browse the Categories to find the Alphabets that best fit your team or school. I would suggest sticking with large, block style alphabets in order to keep the design simple and easy to read from a distance. My sample was done with Phys. Ed but some other great choices include Autumn, Big Red, Brush Thick, Chalked, Looney and Monsters. Several other theme alphabet designs include a set of letters that are not decorated and they can easily be used for this project as well (i.e. JDA Army National Guard, Fair Play, JDA Navy and Red Socks).
  2. Once you have selected your alphabet, type the first letter on the ‘type here’ line at the bottom of the screen. Press Enter and it will display in the box above in your selected alphabet.
  3. Click ‘Add’ to place the letter in the Image Box.
  4. Move to the layout page and click the lettering in the ‘Alphabet’ box to place it on the page. Select the image and then click ‘Size Image’. Size the letter to be smaller than the full sheet of paper, to allow for trimming and mounting. (Remember to check the ‘Constrained’ box for the width or height, to be sure that the image sizes proportionally.)
  5. Print your letter and the repeat steps 2 though 5 until you have all of the letters you need.
  6. Trim the letters and mount them on cardstock (or posterboard for extra durability).
