How to Cover a Notebook or Journal:
Creating the outer cover:
1) Open to the center of the notebook and place on a piece of cardstock or patterned paper, wrong side of patterned paper should be facing the outside of the journal. (The paper should be at least 1/2" larger than the notebook on all sides.)
2) Following the blue fold line on the template pictured above, trace along the outer edges of the notebook to leave a guide for fold lines. Remove notebook from paper.
3) Following the black outer line on the template, mark off an additional 1/2" around the perimeter of the traced lines and trim to the outer line.
4) Place marks for red cut lines connecting the outer corner of the paper to the fold line.
5) Center the notebook on the paper again and create cut lines measuring the width of the spine. (Refer to green cut lines above).
6) Trim red and green cut lines. Do not cut along the fold line.
7) Using a scoring blade or bone folder, fold along the fold line. Fold the tabs formed by the trimmed spine pieces down towards the center of the paper.
Assembling the notebook:
1) Using a tape runner or decoupage medium, adhere the cover to the outside of the journal or notebook being careful to center the notebook to the paper. Press firmly to rub out any bubbles or creases. Apply adhesive to the 1/2" edges of the paper and fold them into the inside of the cover. (Corners will overlap.)
2) To add paper to the inside covers of the notebook, trim to the exact measurement of each inside cover and adhere.
3) Decorate cover with additional papers, ribbon and trim.
4) For the band, trim a piece of paper slightly larger than the diameter of the book. Adhere ends together and embellish with additional ribbons, flowers and tag.
5) For the inside pocket, trim a sturdy piece of patterned paper or cardstock to size and adhere on two or three sides (depending on shape of the pocket) using a tape runner.
