My
two nieces both celebrated birthdays last week, two days
in a row. At their birthday party last weekend they each
got to invite some friends and each had their own birthday
cake. Molly turned 7 and requested a pink doll cake. Lexi
has been playing city league softball for several years
and wanted a softball cake to celebrate turning 12. I volunteered
to make them both and the girls asked if they could help.
So, the night before the party, the kitchen turned into
a bakery and we went to town
For some finishing touches on these birthday masterpieces,
I turned to Lettering
Delights. We needed to find a way
to put candles on Molly's doll cake (every 7 year old has
to blow out candles!) and the softball field needed some
extra touches. I used the perfectly pink Simple
Spring alphabet to decorate some homemade candle holders and the
Softball alphabet was just what we needed for some outfield
banners.
The girls loved the finished products and the cakes were
a big hit at the party too. The extras I created with
help from Lettering
Delights put great finishing touches

Delights alphabets and the Creative
Delights Companion helped me create perfect finishing touches for
my nieces birthday cakes. |
| Candle Holders |
- I started by cutting, folding and gluing together 7 -
1” square boxes (one for each candle) from pink cardstock.
(I used my own pattern but several die cut boxes may be
available at your local scrapbook store.) I punched a small
hold, just large enough to snugly fit a birthday candle,
in the top of each box.
- In the Creative
Delights Companion I spelled out Molly's
name and used the number 7, sizing each to about 3/4”,
in the Simple
Spring alphabet design. In many Lettering
Delights alphabets, the upper and lower-case letters have
different designs or colors. For Molly's pink cake, I used
only the pink include upper-case letters in Simple
Spring.
- To decorate the seventh box, I used an individual flower
from clip art in the Simple
Spring Journaling Delights.
After printing everything I needed from the Creative
Delights Companion I trimmed and adhered each letter, the number
and flower to the side of a box.
- The boxes fit neatly along
the edge of the cake plate and made perfect, personalized
candle holders.

| Outfield Banners |

Using the alphabet Softball in the
Creative
Delights Companion, I printed a simple '12'
on white cardstock and cut it to the shape of a pennant-style
banner, mounted it on red cardstock and hot-glued it
to a wooden skewer. The banner with Lexi's name was
made with the font LD
Carefree Black (72 point), cut,
mounted and glued to match the #12 banner.
