An alphabet is a full-color set of letters and is made up of individual image files. These image files can be imported, viewed, arranged, printed, and changed in a graphics editing software such as PhotoShop or word processing programs such as Word. You can download the .zip files of the alphabets which when unzipped will give you a folder with all of the individual graphics (see what that looks like here) or you can download individual words or sentences you make on the site with our online tool.  Learn how to use it here. We recommend using this feature as it is much easier to type words than to rearrange letters on a blank canvas.

Graphic Sets are very useful. Here is an easy bullet point list of the uses and benefits:

cut file example

Cut sets are very versatile. Here is an easy bullet point list of the uses and benefits:

  • Cut sets come with a variety of file types to cover the file needs for many different types of machines. We include .ai, .dxf, .eps, .gsd, .pdf, and .svg.
  • Our early "Cut sets" were called .svg files. These files are being replaced on LD. They only include .svg format
fonts

A font is a typeface. It's a small file that you install on your computer or system that will allow you type words in the specified typeface. Fonts are vector files, which means they can be sized up to any size at all without any negative consequences.  When you print a font, you can print it with a specified color, however you typically can't do more than one color without some advanced programming.

fonts

A doodlebat is a picture font. Rather than letters, each character of the font is an image. Doodlebats come with a PDF reference sheet so you can see which image corresponds with each keystroke.  Shop for doodlebats.

printables

We often refer to a printable .pdf just as "printable." A printable is simply a document that comes "ready to print." You simply download the .pdf and print. Many of the printables require some simple cutting and sometimes folding and gluing.

paper pack

A paper pack or digital paper is patterned designs that are intended to be used in a variety of projects. They are typically .jpg files which means they will lose resolution if you scale them larger but since the files are 300 dpi, you can scale them up and not perceivably notice much difference if you are going more than double the original size. Our paper patterns are created at 300 dpi and are 12" x 12" so if you have a large scale printer, you actually could print scrapbook size paper. If not, you can fill a standard size sheet of paper with the print as well.

A cut tile is small pattern file that is created to be tiled right to left and up and down as a continuous pattern. Originally cut tiles were created with Make-The-Cut software in mind. In the software, a file shape can be continuously filled with the pattern.

Since cut tiles are continuous pattern files they can be used in any program that "tiles" a pattern, like the background of a web page or filling a shape in PhotoShop.

A thin Font is a single-line font. A person can put a pen, crayon, or a number of tools right into the "claw" of a cutting machine rather than a blade and use the machine to "draw" instead of "cut". When you do that with a regular font (.ttf or .otf) the machine traces the outline of the font so rather than having a single line, you get a double line.
